Two people conduct focused research, one online and offline, then compare insights.
Note: This activity requires a minimum of two participants and has been written for precisely two participants. Modify the activity as needed for additional participants.
Participants must set aside an agreed upon block of time (≥4 hours, ideally a full day). This time will be dedicated to pure research, with NO other meetings or project work scheduled for the entirety of this Activity.
One person represents “the Internet” and must conduct their research using only online sources. The other person represents “the Library” and must conduct their research using only offline sources.
Conduct research relevant to the project at hand. If helpful, participants can collaborate in advance to establish focus areas for their research.
Take notes and cite your sources.
Write a summary of key insights incl. citations.
Share written summaries with other participant(s). Discuss insights with the following questions in mind:
Do our respective insights/learnings imply consensus? If so, how? If not, how?
In the case of conflicting insights/learnings, which are most likely to impact this work positively?
Upon review, which insights/learnings should be prioritized? Which should be discarded?
How can we make these insights actionable?
